Genealogical Research in Bucks County

“I am digging into my family history. Much of my family lived in Bucks County, PA. As a probate lawyer, do you have suggestions as to where I would do my Genealogical Research in Bucks County?”

Genealogical Research in Bucks County:

The Bucks County Register of Wills possesses a wealth of data for those interested in genealogical research. When probating a Bucks County will, the Register collects a copy of the person’s death certificate, the person’s original will, an inventory of the person’s probate assets and a copy of the person’s inheritance tax return.

Don’t Just Read the Will, Get the File.

The Bucks county probate file might also include many other family related items. Tax returns, receipts, and lists of assets. Further, there might be lists of children or siblings. All of these documents can provide invaluable family information to a person working on a family tree.

The Archive Research Center is open to the public and you do not need an appointment. The Bucks County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court have records dating back to 1684, so you can trace your family tree back for hundreds of years and find out what they owned and to whom they gave their money. You might also find out who was the black sheep in the family and got nothing!
