Defeated: A Sales Tax on the Legal Services, Including the Legal Fees for Drafting Wills, Advising Trustees and Executors, Will Challenges and Accountings in the Orphans’ Court.

Throughout 2007 and into 2008 an attempt in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives led by Representative Samuel Rohrer (R-Berks County), to include legal services in the Commonwealth’s sales tax. This would mean that the cost of Wills and even more so, Will Challenges, would have increased to Pennsylvanians.

Representative Rohrer amended House Bill 1600, legislation addressing school property taxes, to include this expansion of the sales tax. The amendment was defeated by a vote of 47 in favor to 148 opposed on 1/29/08.
